Our first day of recording was a massive success! The process was smooth and took approximately 2 hours. Today we filmed credit scenes. We did not want a black screen with rolling credits because that is boring and requires no creativity. We were looking for a clean and aesthetically pleasing background This keeps the audience engaged. These shots do not correlate with anything in the film, nor will they have an impact. They are there for aesthetics and we chose these shots because the film will involve a lot of laboratory shots.
Now lets dive into the fun stuff. My team and I headed to our local supermarket right after school to pick up vinegar, baking soda, and glycerin. We believed that this would make a big chemical reaction if we added it to water, but to our surprise it did not. The glycerin we bought came in gummy form, and we were not expecting it. Our original experiment combination did not work.
After trying another combination for a couple of minutes, Sam suggested that we should do just vinegar and baking soda. We quickly realised that this combination gave us just what we were searching for. The only issue was that after experimenting, the vinegar was starting to run out. Not only that, but we attempted to shoot 2 times, and the shots did not come out how we wanted them to. The first one was too shaky and for the second one we did not pour enough baking soda to get the reaction we where looking for. Once again, we had to improvise. After going in the pantry, Jalin got apple cider vinegar. This gave the same exact reaction as vinegar but it was a far more reactive! This was just what we needed!

(

The reasoning for the dark lighting goes hand in hand with the reasoning for the third. The dark room not only makes the reactions look better, but it also adds a sense of mystery.
Moving on to the back-round elements of the shots, we used 2 YouTube videos for the back-round. (Which are linked at the bottom of this blog). Thankfully, i own a monitor stand, and it can hook 2 monitors at the same time. For the monitor on the left, we used a video of bubbles under a microscope we found on youtube. For the second video we used a scientific looking background just to make it look more professional.
Under the monitors, I grabbed a couple of medicines from my parents' closet and made it look disorganized and chaotic. This is how a typical doctor's office is represented in the media, so we wanted to stick to that. The mess also makes the shot feel more chaotic.
We are still considering using a shot of somebody putting on a glove in the dark. We positioned the hand on the right third to give space for the credits to be on the left third.
Overall i am very proud of us. I can talk about how well we work as a team all day, and this is what makes this process so enjoyable. This did not feel like homework because of how enjoyable it was. I also really liked the mise en scene elements, and I am looking forward to filming again very soon.

Here is me recording some of the shots
