Patient 1 from the previous blog now has a name: Maverick. The reason we decided to name him Maverick was due to its meaning. A maverick is somebody who does things differently. In the context of this film, the name can be represented or seen as an alpha. The plot of this film is all about Maverick saving himself and more importantly a very large population. Some of the obstacles he will go through are the effects of the medicine, his lack of knowledge about medicine, and figuring out what went wrong. This is all taking place in the span of 48 hours before every patient dies.
As far as the mise-en scene elements go, Maverick will wear jeans and a leather jacket. This choice for costume design is not random. There is a why and thought that went into this. After examining and analysing protagonist who face similar adversity to the one Maverick has to face, most wear similar clothing. I believe the durability and sturdy denim represent a no-nonsense and straight business look, which is key for mavericks personality and visual representation. As far as accessories we believe glasses will add a nerdy look because he will be experimenting with some formulas and medical equipment to find a solution. Obviously, he will face a boatload of trouble with the medical equipment like explosions. We want to make this film very detail-oriented, and ever since taking this class a have a much deeper appreciation for little details like this.
Maverick's props will be his computer, which he will need to do research to add detail to his nerdy look. Jalin's computer will work out great because of the stickers he has on it. I feel like this matches Maverick’s aesthetics very well. Another prop will be his energy drinks because he will certainly be getting no sleep due to the time crunch.
Overall, Maverick's character will be represented as a tough-minded individual who will need mental resilience to face all the bumps along the long, challenging road ahead. His aesthetics such as costume design, props, and name, will help paint a more clear picture of who he truly is.
Below are some inspirations we have for Maverick's aesthetic.
