CCR #1

For my first CCR, I plan on taking advantage of my dad's studio. It is highly likely I will do a podcast. The black side of my dad's studio is perfect for a podcast. It has the Misce en scene elements that are perfect for a more informal podcast which is the style I am aiming for. I will likely be getting interviewed as the main director of the film. This is simple, effective, and gets the job done.
I will answer profoundly: How does your product use or challenge conventions, and how does it represent social groups or issues?
First of all, a convention is an expectation, or "rule," that certain things have. In films when talking about the target audience, the most important thing is growing and, at the same time, keeping your fanbase. To do this, filmmakers must understand their genres conventions and hit many of the key ones to attract their target audience, yet challenge some of the conventions to make a film stand out. When analysing characters and conflict that drive the story, it explains how these elements create suspense, tension, or emotional impact for the audience (Fiveable, 2026).
To begin, our film is a mystery/drama. Drama typically involves a conflict that the protagonist is attempting to resolve. This falls right along the lines of a typical drama film. Not to mention this drama film is due or die situation, which is what hardcore drama fans are expecting when tuning in to watch these films. Having a timer on the mission enforces the drama aspect of this film. When talking about drama, a deeply emotional character likely comes to mind.  In this case, Maverick, the main character and protagonist, will be a flat character. The film will revolve more around the problem than Maverick himself. He will have little to no backstory; just a regular, every-day guy who chose to put matters into his own hands.

You may be asking why we are choosing to challenge the convention of a deeply emotional main character. Well, this is where the mystery comes in. We want to make this film a whole mystery. What went wrong and how it will be solved is a typical convention for a mystery film. An issue that remains unsolved throughout the whole film, with clues that will add up torwards the end, is also a common convention that will be seen throught the entire duration of this film. In a typical mystery film like The Iimitation Game, there is a mentor helping out the protagonist resolve the mystery. In this case, the antagonist, Dr. Mueller, is taking his own life, which will eliminate any type of mentor. The protagonist not having a mentor challenges the mystery convention. This allows for the mission to be far more challenging for Maverick making it more entertaining.
Lastly, representation can be used to allow the audience to sympathize with the protagonist. Maverick is represented as an everyday guy saving the world. Maverick being represented as the typical every day guy allows for the audience to sympathize with him because they can relate to him.
